How Wireless Technology Could Transform Fieldwork
More than half of utility employees work in the field, maintaining assets manually. Data collection and analysis are critical to operational success.
Due to the projected retirement of half the workforce in the next decade, the utility industry must accomplish more with fewer field workers. Field service operations are changing as a result of this situation. Utilities are increasingly using digital tools to streamline fieldwork and provide data. These tools, however, require reliable and broad network coverage.
A major challenge is that utility territories extend across rural or remote areas with spotty coverage and complex urban environments where workers are confined to high-rise buildings or basements. Device connectivity may be difficult to maintain in these locations.
